Important Au Pair Travel Information

A summary of all important information regarding your au pair’s international arrival

1. International Arrivals and Au Pair Training School

Agent Au Pair will book your Au Pair’s international flight. The Au pair will arrive in the USA in a New York City Area Airport on a Tuesday and Training will start on the following day (Wednesday).

The Au Pair Training School is held at the Omni New Haven Hotel at Yale, Connecticut, which is approximately 90 minutes from New York City. The Au Pairs will also stay at this hotel.

Au Pairs will attend three days of training before departing to your family. Au Pair School will start at 10am Wednesday morning and concludes at 2 PM on Friday afternoon. Breakfast and lunch are included.

2. Travel Arrangements to Host Family Home

Host Families are responsible for arranging all travel arrangements from the Au Pair School to their home. This includes ground transportation and flights. Suggested airports:

Bradley in CT/ All New York area airports/ Tweed New Haven in CT.  (Checked bags are typically not included in domestic flight reservations.

  • 1 checked bag needs to be included in the reservation

** The au pair must fly directly to your home from au pair school.

Ground transport:

Host Families need to arrange ground transportation for your Au Pair from the hotel in New Haven (see above) to the Airport. Our recommended shuttle service is GoAirport Shuttle. Host families can also use Uber/Lyft.

  • If you live in the Boston to Washington D.C. Corridor, au pairs can easily take an Amtrak train from Union Station in New Haven, Connecticut, which is about 6 minutes from the hotel.
  • Au Pairs can also be picked up at the hotel after 2 pm on Friday.
Hotel:

If the Host Family chooses to fly their Au Pair to their home on Saturday, they are responsible for booking an additional night at the hotel for the au pair.

3. Travel Recommendations

Please find travel recommendations for each of the airports mentioned below.

JFK Airport: This is the recommended airport for flying your Au Pair due to having the best flight connections and easiest ground transport connection. Typically flights after 6pm work, but please check with the shuttle provider first to make sure that their pickup time is not before 2pm. The easiest ground transport is a shared shuttle from GoAirport shuttle.

LGA Airport: Typically flights after 6pm work, but please check with the shuttle provider first to make sure that their pickup time is not before 2pm. The easiest ground transport is a shared shuttle from GoAirport.

BDL Airport: Close to the hotel and serviced by GoAirport’s shuttle service. Typically flights after 4.30pm work, but please check with the shuttle provider first to make sure that their pickup time is not before 2pm. Scheduling an Uber ahead of time might be an option.

EWR Airport: GoAirport Shuttle from the hotel is only available as a private car service. You may also schedule an Uber ahead of time.

HVN Airport: Tweed New Haven is the closest airport to the hotel.  They use Avelo Airlines which can connect you to many larger cities.

Amtrack: Taking the Amtrak from Union Station, New Haven to your location is always an option.  Remember, your au pair will have luggage for a year’s stay.
