Siying’s First Month in the USA

First, allow me to introduce myself. My name is SIYING, and I arrived my host family in Hawaii from China last month. I’ve been meaning to reach out and express my sincere gratitude to you and the entire Agent Au Pair team for making this incredible journey possible. I first learned about the Au Pair program during my university years. I applied even before I graduated, so it took over half a year of waiting and matching, but it was all worth it in the end.

I want to thank you for your support throughout the entire process—from the initial application to matching me with my amazing host family here in Hawaii. Before arriving, I was quite anxious about what to expect, but my host parents have been absolutely wonderful. They’ve gone above and beyond to make me feel at home, preparing everything I need and being incredibly supportive.

While I’m settling in, there’s one small challenge: I can’t directly transfer my Chinese driver’s license to a Hawaii license, so I’m currently working on passing the local driving test to get around more easily. Because public transportation here is quite limited, having a license will make a huge difference in my daily life. The whole process of getting the license might take 2-3 months.

Last week, I had the chance to meet another Au Pair on the island at the Monthly Meeting. It seems the Au Pair program is still relatively new here, but I can already see how much families here could benefit from the support and care that Au Pairs provide. I truly hope Agent Au Pair’s presence here continues to grow, and I’m excited to be part of this growing community:)
