Requirements for International Travel During Your Au Pair Program

There are a few things you need to do before traveling internationally during the first year of your au pair program! As your sponsor, Agent Au Pair needs to be aware of all international travel. Au pairs need to send their DS-2019 form and envelope 30 days prior to traveling to get signed. If your DS-2019 form is not signed, you risk the possibility of not being able to reenter the United States.

As of November 8, 2021, au pairs are required to be fully vaccinated with an approved vaccine to return to the United States after traveling internationally. Additional information on traveling can be found here. Agent Au Pair does not recommend traveling internationally during the second year of your program.

Mental Health & Covid-19

Living in a foreign country as an international exchange visitor can be an emotional experience for Au Pairs who are likely to experience Homesickness and Culture Shock during their program year.

Covid-19 adds a new layer of stress to the Au Pair experience. Hosts and Local Coordinators should be proactive in equipping Au Pairs to Cope with Stress. Everyone should Care for Yourself Each Day and utilize Mental Health Tools and Resources as needed.

Featured Local Coordinator

Samantha from Chicago, IL

I believe in wholeheartedly the purpose of welcoming an au pair into your home. I find so many of the au pairs to be so brave in traveling so far to take on an adventure! It is so admirable to me.

My favorite part of being a local rep is learning about each family and au pair, they are all so unique and special! I’m a mom, wife, sister, homeowner, daughter and counselor and a Local Coordinator for Agent Au Pair. I love all that I do and all that I have created. My role as a local rep has reminded me to slow down in life, take chances and to see the beauty in humanity.
